Went for orientation on friday. It was boring lah. But had 2 tea breaks. I was hardly hungry. For the 1st time. Haha. There was only one speaker who could make me stay alert throughout his presentation. He's Mr Foo, COO of SGH. He's really gd and funny. He made me feel proud to be part of SGH. Haha. Will be going for another orientation at bukit timah there tmr. Duno if I'll fall aslp again anot. Lol.

But I really like one part of the presentation where they said that we are very different from the other customer service lines. In other customer service lines such as boutique, F & B etc, the customers served are mostly healthy I would say and they expect to be given the products or services they want.

Whereas in the Healthcare industry, it is a totally different story. The customers we meet are very different. They are sick people. Their families and relatives are emotionally troubled, frustrated etc. Serving them like how the other service lines do is not enough. We have to add in empathy and understanding. We have to put ourselves in their shoes. We must be very careful in the words we use too. For e.g., we cannot possibly say, "Welcome to SGH" right? Haha. Or "See you again". They'll kill u. Haha.

To me, that is the most meaningful message in the whole orientation.
After orientation, met up with the lab ppl for singing at party world. Was fun but very tiring man. I was dead beat. My eyes were half opened. Haha. I like the snacks. Keropok and fruits. Better than K box. Haha. But Ade says the snacks are always changing. Depends on luck. Lol.

Look at my playful bro Dom Dom. Naughty yet cute at the same time isn't he? haha..

The naughty boy monkey-ing around. Haha..

He sure is having loads of fun~ Haha.

Hmm.. Making a surprise for my dar sista. But haven't started doing it. Haiyo.. procrastinating as usual again. Haha.. Oops. Have to get started to deliver it on time. Haha!

Today is simply a bad day lah. First is the char siew bao issue. Queued v long for it during lunch time. Tried my best to reach there as early as poss but still the bao ran out. Couldn't get all my orders. Next, auntie overcharged us. And the stupid me didnt ask her. Haiz.

This is followed by 2 difficult outpatient cases.

1st patient. Auntie. 68. Has dementia. Kept talking non-stop, repeating the same things over and over again. Super restless. Ade had to entertain her for an hr. Poor Ade. As a result, she got a backache.

2nd patient. 17 yr old boy. Gangster-like. Put so much gel on his hair. Has lotsa dandruff as a result. Kept flying all over when I was measuring his head. Didn't help when he kept figeting and talking on the phone.

I'm simply pissed off. Vented my anger on auntie. My tone changed. Haiz. I cannot be as patient as Ade.

Next, had to sort out the bao issue. Cos there was a shortage of bao, we negotiated and divided them. Then, we had to settle the $. I hate settling $ issues. I'm very poor at accounts.

Didn't improve the situation when Mdm C added to my workload. Asked me to disconnect the com etc. Hate her.

I claimed half an hr time-off. In the end, it was wasted. I'm too tired to explain. I'm just being very brief. No mood to explain. Tired. Really exhausted. Both mentally and physically.

Sydney uni. Shld I go? Pressurized. Big decision making again. Smthg that I've always hated to the core. Cos I can't stand regrets. And I seem to be always making wrong decisions only to regret it later. I don't want that. Esp for decisions that can change my life... determine my path...

What shld I do? I need Him. My Lord. Simply said. Easily understood. Haix.. duno what rubbish post I'm writing lah. Sianzzz...

Woah. I really buay tahan 3 ppl. I shall name them Persons A, B and C.

Person A. Worked in the lab for SOOOO many yrs already still can't identify the EEG pattern? I only saw it once when I did portable with Ade and I could rougly know that is burst and suppression already leh! Tian ah~ I practically wana vomit bld on the spot! HAHA.

Person B. Excuse me. I've only worked for a mth plus. I haven't even gotten my measurements for the normal patients (be it outpatient, or inpatients on wheelchair) accurately yet and she ask me to try trolley case already.

Ok nvm. It's not that I'm unwilling to try. I tried lor. But I really can't lah! I said I can't she didn't wana help. Not paying attn to me at all. Until I really buay tahan, give up! Qi si.

Person C. When I'm trying the trolley case, he came in with 2 trainee (I think) doc. Seems to be teaching them some things. He was asking the patient some qns in canto lah. Then later he ask me to ask the patient whether she had headache then.

I wanted to ask in Mandarin cos the auntie patient understands Mandarin mah. Then that stupid Person B told me to ask in canto. You know lah. My canto cannot make it de (tho' I'm a canto). What the *toot* Ok lor. I try lor. Then my pronounciation not gd lah. Person C kinda repeated what I said sarcastically lor! Wah piang. I wana tu xue ahhh~

Sickening day lah. My day without my teacher Ade is always not smooth sailing de. Sobz.

To those who haven't watch The Simpsons Movie. It's darn funny lah. Lame but funny. LOL.

I used to switch to other channels whenever the cartoon Simpsons is showing on tv. Didn't think that this movie would be nice to watch but surprisingly, it turned out quite gd! Haha. That's just my opinion lah. At least it gave the whole cinema a gd laugh. =)

Don't forget to catch it! Cute lah. Esp the part where the son, Bart (I think, forgot his name) skated all over the streets naked cos his Dad dared him to.

His private part was always conveniently blocked by things but at one spot, it was exposed. For those who had watched will know. That part was hilarious. LOL.

Anyone interested to know what my job consists of? If no, u can discontinue reading now. If yes, then read on. Haha.

I'm currently doing routine and portable Electroencephalogram (EEG) test on patients who may have seizures, fainted/lost consciousness, fell down and knocked their head etc.

Routine EEG: patients come down to our lab.
Portable: We go to their bed side to perform the test.

First, I measure the patient's head with a measuring tape and make markings all over the scalp. I will then use a white "gel" (something like facial scrub) to clean the points and put conduction paste on.

The gel is to reduce the impedence (resistance) caused by dirt, dry skin, oil or whatever is on the patient's scalp.

After which, the patient is to lie down on a couch where about 30 electrodes are placed on the paste. If the computer doesnt accept the impedence level, I have to clean again, harder this time. Ouch. Haha.

The lights are switched off, machine calibrated and the recording starts (total of 30mins).

During the test, the patient is asked to open and close his/her eyes.

Mental activation is done whereby some questions are asked e.g. patient's name, birth date, NRIC no., home add, simple mental sums etc.

Another form of activation is done on patients who are unable to respond (e.g. stupor, coma etc). Activations like clapping of hand, calling their name, pinching their limbs etc.

Photic stimulation is done as well. A box full of light bulbs are shown to the patient. The patient is to look at it while it keeps flashing in 10 sec interval. The freq will increase up to 20 Hz.

Now the patient is to hyperventilate (breathing in and out thru' their mouth as tho' they're panting) for 3 - 5 mins depending on situations and individuals.

However, patients who are seriously ill, have heart problems, asthma, stroke, or who are above 75 yrs old cannot do this exercise.

All these activations are to stimulate the patient as well as to test their responsiveness.

The patient is encouraged to sleep till the end of the recording so that we can compare the sleep and awake brain activity patterns.

This briefly sums up what I'm doing now in my lab. =x haha. I shall scan and post a picture of what I see off the computer screen everyday during recording. Lol.

Cindy said Amilia is working at Hemato Lab for about a mth already! I was shocked to hear that. Haha. I also duno why. Just surprised lah. Lol.
